A federal appeals court late Thursday paused a ruling that required President Donald Trump to return control of members of California’s National Guard to the state.

A federal judge ruled Trump’s deployment of the California National Guard during the ICE riots was illegal and ordered control returned to Governor Gavin Newsom.

“He is not a monarch. He is not a king, and he should stop acting like one,” Newsom told reporters outside the federal courthouse after an emergency hearing in downtown San Francisco.

A federal court will hear arguments this afternoon on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s emergency motion seeking to block troops deployed by President Donald Trump to Los Angeles from enforcing immigration and local law.
