The National Hurricane Center continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Melissa as it slowly crawls through the Caribbean. While little change in strength is expected over the next day or so, Melissa is forecast to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane this weekend.

The National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. Thursday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Melissa is in the Caribbean Sea, 240 miles south-southeast of Kingston Jamaica and 300 miles southwest of Port Au Prince Haiti. The system, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, is moving west-northwest at 3 mph.

The National Hurricane Center said uncertainty continues on where Tropical Storm Melissa will go and how strong it could get.
