A renewed round of supercells could fire near the cold front Thursday with damaging winds and strong tornadoes
Residents across parts of the central Plains and Midwest face a direct threat Thursday as a cold front drives into a volatile airmass primed for discrete supercells, damaging winds, and strong tornadoes rated EF2 or higher.
Buildings were smashed and homes were destroyed after tornadoes wreaked havoc in Illinois. CBS News' Rob Marciano has the latest as severe weather heads eastward.
The entire Chicago metro area is now under a tornado watch. The National Weather Service expanded its tornado watch Thursday afternoon to include parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin.
