Hundreds of Israelis gathered in Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, some cheering and some in tears, as a giant television screen broadcast the first glimpse of the first three hostages to be released under the Gaza ceasefire deal.

The deal, not yet formally announced, outlines a six-week initial ceasefire phase and includes the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian detainees held by Israel.

Three Israeli hostages and 90 Palestinian prisoners were released as phase one of the ceasefire began. Hours before Jan. 19, after the Supreme Court upheld a law that would require TikTok be sold to a U.
