Protests surrounding immigration enforcement actions in the Los Angeles area and the Trump administration's response to them have cued up a public spat between President Donald Trump and Gov.
President Trump ordered National Guard troops to the area after clashes over immigration-enforcement operations.
Trump, who has defended his decision to federalize the California National Guard, has pushed back on Newsom’s assertions, calling the governor “incompetent” and “Newscum.” Trump has characterized the Los Angeles protests as violent and potentially dangerous for ICE law enforcement to carry out their duties.
Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., has continued to defend himself and refute the claims by the Trump administration that he crashed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's news conference before federal officers shoved him outside the room, pushed him onto the floor and handcuffed him.
Two Republican in Congress are requesting documents and communications between Newsom, Bass and law enforcement over the protests.
It comes amid protests in Los Angeles after Trump authorized the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to the city.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is taking the Trump administration to court over its decision to send troops to Los Angeles.
Newsom said he's been forced to think about what would happen in the event the Trump administration did secure a federal warrant for his arrest.
"California may be first - but it clearly won't end here." Newsom says Trump's decision to deploy the California National Guard without his support should be a warning to other states.
