Two people were killed when lightning struck a group of people on Saturday during the Di Trupa festival in Mathibestad village in North West on Saturday.

At least two people died and about 150 wounded after lightning struck the annual festival in South Africa’s capital Pretoria. Authorities informed that the ones injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to authorities, a total of 150 patients with lightning-related injuries from the event were treated at Mathibestad clinic, with 49 subsequently admitted to Jubilee Hospital.

Since 2006, more than 500 people have been killed by lightning strikes in the U.S., according to the National Lightning Safety Council.
