The woman who was killed when a man intentionally set fire to her while she was sleeping on a New York City subway train earlier this month has been identified as Debrina Kawam, police said.

It took police more than a week to publicly identify 57-year-old Debrina Kawam as the woman who was fatally set on fire in a New York subway train on Dec. 22.

The woman was identified as Debrina Kawam of Toms River, New Jersey. Mayor Adams said she had a "brief stint" in the city's shelter system.

Investigators have learned the name of a woman who was burned alive — and beyond recognition — aboard a Brooklyn train last week.
