Milwaukee Public Schools have been out of compliance with a state law requiring them to have 25 officers in schools.

A new state law mandated officers return to Milwaukee Public Schools by January of last year. The district and the city have pointed fingers at each other over the delay, but now the clock is ticking, with a court order to comply with the law within the next three weeks.

The families of MPD officers Peter Jerving and Jimmy Nowak raised money for scholarships to benefit new MPD recruits. It's a way for them to honor the legacy of their fallen loved ones.
