Billionaire Elon Musk has renewed his call to Germans to vote for the far-right Alternative for Germany party in February's election, sparking controversy.

Elon Musk has backed Germany's right-wing Alternative for Germany party (AfD) in a guest opinion piece the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

Elon Musk backed Germany’s far-right Alternative for Deutschland party, known as the AfD, in an opinion piece published in a German newspaper on Saturday, wading deeper into international politics as the billionaire has become a fixture in Trump’s orbit.

In a guest column for the German newspaper Die Welt, Elon Musk has called on Germany to vote for the anti-immigration party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), calling it “the last flicker of hope for the country”.

While he gains power in the incoming Trump administration, Elon Musk is using his influence elsewhere, endorsing a far-right party in Germany.

Only the AfD can save Germany,” Elon Musk wrote, referencing the far-right anti-immigrant and anti-Islam party in Europe’s largest country.
