Volunteers deliver hot meals to unpaid TSA workers at O'Hare as federal government shutdown drags on
Union leaders say TSA workers are some of the lowest-paid federal employees, and now, because of the shutdown, they are faced with difficult choices every day and are afraid.
“It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today,” said Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union, according to The Associated Press. “No half measures, and no gamesmanship.”
Republican and Democratic lawmakers remain at a stalemate on finding a government funding solution to end what is now the second-longest shutdown in U.S. history. The Senate failed for the 13th time on Tuesday to advance a bill that would reopen the government until Nov.
News 19 spoke to two Redstone Arsenal workers on furlough. Rese Meikus, an obsolescence engineer at the Arsenal, told News 19, “I am ready to go back to work.” Meikus says for the last three weeks she’s been keeping busy by decorating the yard for Halloween and cleaning the house.
