Earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences updated its list of rules for the 98th annual event scheduled for next year. The update includes key clarification on the use of AI in films, namely that the technology’s use won’t disqualify a film from earning an Oscar.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has introduced new rules for next year's Oscars, and one of them allows for the use of AI in films. The new guidelines do not exclude movies made with AI from winning top awards and do not limit the extent to which artificial intelligence can be used.

The Academy has revealed it will change Oscars rules to require members to have seen the nominated films before voting in all competitive Academy Awards categories.
