According to an update from Jared Glover, spokesperson for Publix grocery stores, a new location is expected to come to Chesapeake. This adds to the Florida chain’s fleet of upcoming locations.

The last, a Virginia Beach location, opened in December 2024. Publix first broke into the region in 2018, opening a store in Williamsburg. The supermarket also has locations in Suffolk and Carrollton.

Publix has been open for over 90 years Publix was founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, about 50 miles southwest of Orlando. According to the company, Publix has over 260,000 employees.

Net earnings for the quarter were up 100.8% to $1.2 billion, compared to $618 million in 2022. Publix’s stock price increased from $14.55 per share to $14.97 per share, effective May 1.

A new Publix Super Market is about to open in Suffolk, with additional grocery stores on the way to Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Carrollton, Virginia, next year.

Publix also announced plans to open a Virginia Beach location in 2024 at the northeast corner of General Booth Boulevard and Nimmo Parkway, as well as a Chesapeake store in early 2025.
