Tarrant County commissioners approved a controversial redistricting proposal late Tuesday afternoon. It was a long and contentious day at the Commissioners Court with more than 200 people speaking about redrawing boundary lines during public comment.

Tarrant County, Texas, sued over a newly drawn map of commissioner districts that plaintiffs say discriminates against Black and Latino voters.

The new map, presented to the public on May 30, alters the Democratic Precincts 1 and 2 in southern Tarrant County. Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons of Arlington, up for reelection in 2026, will be in a Republican-leaning district.
