ORIGINAL: School closings are beginning to roll in as lake-effect snow and bitter cold impact Western New York. Buffalo Public Schools announced schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, with no remote instruction, "All students and staff are to stay home and stay safe."

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for much of Western New York. The warning will be in place in Wyoming, Cattaraugus, and Erie counties until 10 am on Wednesday. There could be snow totals between 10 and 20 inches of lake effect snow in the affected areas over the next 48 hours.

Donald Moden Jr., 57, was caught in a Colorado avalanche on Jan. 7. More than four hours later, his concerned wife found him three feet under the snow.
