In the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Iblis debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). This spirit, born in Soleanna, is Mephiles' other half. The character was later incorporated into the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book universe, post the 2006 game.

Iblis, also known as the Flames of Disaster, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik) of Sega's 2006 platform video game Sonic the Hedgehog. He is a destructive being made of lava and the "raw power" of the sun god Solaris and the arch-nemesis of Silver the Hedgehog .

Iblis is a boss encountered in Sonic 06. He is fought in all three storylines of the game, where Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog fight Iblis' second form, while Silver the Hedgehog fights his first and third form.

Mephiles eventually succeeds after killing Sonic to make Elise cry over his death, releasing her seal on Iblis and merging with him with the use of Chaos Emeralds to become Solaris, who then attempts to consume time itself.

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), during the Solaris Project ten years ago, Iblis's Minions surfaced for the first time when Iblis and Mephiles the Dark tried to escape from Aquatic Base. However, they disappeared after the Duke of Soleanna and two time travelers sealed the entities away.
