Our vet chose the flank spay for this gal because she's lactating, and having the incision on her side would protect it from nursing kittens. FYI, we're confident we found her only kitten, who's now in foster care and receiving treatment for parasites. The flank spay was chosen "just in case," so this mom can nurse if necessary
