Every patch tells a story. In 1949, then Deputy Merle Karnopp designed the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office uniform patch, placing an elk at its center. The elk came straight from the Lancaster County seal, chosen because these animals were once a common sight around the county’s wetlands. The LSO patch is a symbol of our history, our community, and the people who serve it. Today, that history has a new place on our wall. This elk, generously donated by H.
