Jews and Muslims avoid eating pork because it is explicitly prohibited in their sacred texts, not for health trends or cultural reasons. In Judaism, the Torah teaches that a kosher land animal must chew its cud and have split hooves. The pig has split hooves but does not chew its cud, so it fails the Torah’s standard and is therefore forbidden. In Islam, the Qur’an clearly prohibits pork as haram, forbidden for consumption.
