What was neurosurgery residency like? As a more junior resident, I would wake up around 4:00 am and see all of the patients on my service. By 6:00 am, I would update my attending on each patient. Any emergency add-on cases could then be fit into the day. Around 7:00 or 7:30 am, I would head into the OR for the day's surgeries. After all surgeries were complete, if I was not on call, I could go home and get some sleep before starting the process again the next day. If I was on call, I would stay.
