In the 1970s, 13 villagers, led by Shen Mingxin, carved a 1.2 km road through the Taihang Mountains in Henan by hand, using just hammers and chisels. They sold livestock to fund it, and one villager sadly died during construction. With jagged walls and cliffside windows, it was built to connect the isolated village of Guoliang and is now one of the most epic roads you’ll ever see.
